A new study shows that a high volume arthroscopy center can achieve cost savings by switching from the standard in-flow only pump to in-flow/out-flow pump, according to a DePuy news release. The study, conducted by Anthony Pachelli, MD, Mohit Bansal, MD, and David Connor, MD, of New Mexico Orthopedic Associates, showed that using the DePuy Mitek FMS DUO+ Fluid Management System for knee and shoulder arthroscopy could amount to $9,515 cost savings.
In the study, the costs were calculated by measuring the absolute volume of saline used, the number of tubing sets used and average dollar cost for both saline and tubing. The annual cost savings for fluid was $28,387 in favor of the FMS DUO pump while the annual cost savings for tubing was $18,872 in favor of the standard in-flow only pump.
