MAKOplasty Procedures Increase 97% in 4Q

MAKO Surgical reported selling 18 RIO systems worldwide during the fourth quarter of 2011, according to a company news release. Sixteen of the 18 systems sold in the fourth quarter were sold domestically. During 2011, the company sold 48 systems and now has 113 systems installed worldwide. During the fourth quarter, the company reported 2,258 MAKOplasty procedures, a 97 percent increase over the same period last year.

The company's newest edition to its platform, the MAKOplasty Total Hip Arthroplasty applications, sold 37 products in the fourth quarter. A total of 49 THA applications were sold in 2011, resulting in 44 percent of domestic commercial installed base having MAKOplasty THA application.

The company anticipates 11,000-13,000 MAKOplasty procedures will be performed in 2012, with 56-62 new RIO systems sales in the next year.
