Here are five minimally invasive spine surgery devices and technologies making a splash in the industry.

Dr. Kevin Vaught performs 1st MIS SI joint fusion with Mazor X
Neurosurgeon Kevin Vaught, MD, of Regional Brain and Spine in Cape Girardeau, Mo., became the first neurosurgeon in the U.S. to perform a SI joint fusion using the Mazor X system. Mazor X is intended to yield less pain and blood loss, smaller incisions, shorter hospitalization and a faster recovery time.

 

Joimax opens endoscopic spine surgery training and education center in California
Joimax opened its new Training and Education Center in Irvine, Calif. The new facility is dedicated to physician education and training. The company will hold its first workshop there on Sept. 8 and 9. The demand for joimax's endoscopic procedures in spine surgery has increased this year, after CMS released a new CPT reimbursement code for endoscopic spine procedures Jan. 1.

 

Intuitive Surgical partners with minimally invasive device manufacturer
JustRight Surgical, a minimally invasive surgical tools manufacturer, signed a licensing agreement with Intuitive Surgical. Currently, JustRight Surgical markets to pediatric surgeons. The company hopes this agreement will further growth into other minimally invasive markets.

 

Dr. Alexios Apazidis performs NY surgery center's 1st SpineFrontier discectomy & fusion
Alexios Apazidis, MD, performed a discectomy and fusion with SpineFrontier's A-CIFT SoloFuse at New York City-based Fifth Avenue Surgery Center in August. A-CIFT SoloFuse is a less exposure surgery technology, allowing an implantation with limited tissue disruption.

 

Dr. Noel Goldthwaite implants innovative spinal cord stimulator
Noel Goldthwaite, MD, of SpineCare Medical Group in Daly City, Calif., implanted Nuvectra's Algovita Spinal Cord Stimulation System in a patient who suffered from chronic pain and opioid addiction. Algovita's leads are designed to bend and stretch with body movement to help sustain long-term therapy.
