Inspired Spine's OLLIF study yields promising results: 7 highlights

MIS

Hamid Abbasi, MD, PhD, presented research on Inspired Spine's Oblique Lateral Interbody fusion implant.

Here are seven highlights:

1. The research emphasized the cost savings hospitals can achieve with OLLIF.

2. The study compared 69 OLLIF procedures to 55 transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion procedures.

3. Dr. Abbasi, who has performed hundreds of OLLIF procedures, noted lumbar fusion procedures using the OLLIF implant resulted in one-tenth the blood loss as the TLIF procedures.

4. Additionally, the OLLIF procedure required less operating room time and decreased hospital length-of-stay by 40 percent.

5. Dr. Abbasi reported OLLIF average cost savings of 30 percent to 50 percent, or more than $100,000 per case, when compared to TLIF.

6. The researchers concluded the OLLIF procedure offers an alternative to traditional open fusions.

7. Inspired Spine unveiled its research at the Society for Minimally invasive Spine Surgery annual meeting in Las Vegas, from Oct. 13, 2016 to Oct. 15, 2016.
