Operation Walk was originally founded by Lawrence Dorr, MD, founder of the Dorr Arthritis Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, as a charitable organization dedicated to providing orthopedic care for underserved populations in Third World countries. The first Operation Walk mission was to Russia in 1994, and several missions have taken place in the years since. There are now branches of the organization in 11 states and more than 25 medical professionals organizing trips each year.
