Health Information Technology

Five computers that contained the personal health information of more than 3,000 people were stolen from the Stone Oak Urgent Care & Family Practice in San Antonio, Texas, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. Sudhir Gogu, MD, sent letters to all affected patients on Dec. 5, which was roughly six weeks after the break-in, according to the report. Information on the computers included patient names, Social Security numbers, birthdates and diagnoses, among other information.

Dr. Gogu also recommended in the letter that patients monitor and place a fraud alert on their credit reports.
