Report Estimates Ambulatory Practices' EHR Adoption to Reach 80% by 2016

Health Information Technology

IDC Health Insights estimates electronic medical record/electronic health record adoption among midsize and large ambulatory practices will increase from less than 25 percent in 2009 to more than 80 percent by 2016, according to a company news release. IDC Health Insights' report, "IDC MarketScape: U.S. Ambulatory EMR/EHR for Midsize and Large Practices 2011 Vendor Assessment," expects market growth in this sector to be driven by several factors, including regulations and government incentives; potential quality improvements from EHRs; EHRs' growing capabilities and the use of cloud computing; the use of mobile devices in ambulatory practices; and the consolidation of provider vendors as market saturation increases.
