Thirty-three percent of physicians report that at their primary work setting, physicians can communicate with patients via texts or email, according to Deloitte's 2013 Survey of U.S. Physicians. The report includes responses from 613 physicians, of which 146 were primary care physicians, 142 were surgical specialists, 197 were non-surgical specialists and 128 were classified as "other."
According to the report, physicians said:
• Patients can be directed to trusted health care websites — 26 percent
• Patients can schedule visits or access test results through a website — 24 percent
• Patients can request prescription refills through a website — 19 percent
