Robert S. Cairns, MD, an orthopedic physician practicing in Dubuque, Iowa, had formal disciplinary charges filed against him by the Iowa Board of Medicine on Aug. 20 for failing to provide appropriate surgical care to several patients, according to an Iowa Board of Medicine news release.
The Board charged Dr. Cairns with allegedly performing surgical procedures that were beyond his skill and training, as well as performing complex surgical procedures on patients at high risk for complications. The Board also charged Dr. Cairns with allegedly performing inappropriate physical examinations on a female patient.
A hearing for Dr. Cairns has been scheduled for Oct. 27-28.
